Frequently Asked Questions

What do the quality presets mean? +
Small File (CRF 32) compresses aggressively for the smallest output, good for sharing on messaging apps. Balanced (CRF 28) offers a solid tradeoff between size and quality. High Quality (CRF 23) keeps the video looking close to the original while still reducing size.
How much smaller will my video be? +
It depends on the source video's codec and bitrate. Unoptimized videos can shrink by 50-80%. Videos already compressed with H.264 at a low bitrate may only shrink 10-30%. Downscaling the resolution increases savings further.
Does compression affect audio quality? +
Audio is re-encoded to AAC at 128kbps, which is good quality for most content. The main size reduction comes from the video track, not the audio.
What video formats are supported? +
Most common formats work, including MP4, MKV, MOV, WebM, AVI, and FLV. The output is always an MP4 file with H.264 video, which plays on virtually every device.
Why does compression take a long time? +
Video encoding is computationally intensive. The tool runs FFmpeg in your browser using WebAssembly, which is slower than native desktop software. Larger files and higher resolutions take longer. The first run also requires downloading the FFmpeg engine (~24MB).
