Frequently Asked Questions

What frequency is middle C? +
Middle C (C4) is approximately 261.63 Hz. Concert A (A4), the standard tuning reference, is 440 Hz. You can type either value directly into the frequency input.
What do the different waveforms sound like? +
Sine waves produce a pure, smooth tone. Square waves sound buzzy and hollow. Sawtooth waves are bright and harsh, similar to a string instrument. Triangle waves fall between sine and square, with a softer buzz.
Why does the slider use a logarithmic scale? +
Human hearing perceives pitch logarithmically. A linear slider would cram most audible detail into the first few pixels. The logarithmic scale gives equal visual space to each octave, making it easier to find the frequency you want.
Can I use this to test my speakers or headphones? +
Yes. Sweep through the frequency range to check which frequencies your speakers reproduce clearly. Start at low volume to protect your hearing and your equipment.
