Why should I add a waste percentage to my tile order? +
Tiles break during cutting and installation, and edges of a room often require partial tiles. A 10% waste factor is standard for straightforward layouts. Diagonal or complex patterns may need 15-20% extra.
How does grout width affect the number of tiles needed? +
Wider grout lines slightly reduce the number of tiles per square foot since each tile plus its grout joint occupies more space. For standard 1/8 inch grout lines the difference is minimal, but 1/2 inch grout on small tiles can reduce tile count noticeably.
How do I measure an irregularly shaped room for tiling? +
Break the room into rectangles, calculate each rectangle's area separately, and add them together. Enter the total square footage directly using the area input instead of length and width.
