How does cross-multiplication work for ratios? +
For A:B = C:D, cross-multiplication means A x D = B x C. If you know three values, you solve for the fourth. For example, if 2:3 = 4:?, then ? = (3 x 4) / 2 = 6.
How is a ratio simplified to lowest terms? +
Both numbers in the ratio are divided by their greatest common divisor (GCD). For example, 12:8 simplified is 3:2 because the GCD of 12 and 8 is 4.
