Frequently Asked Questions

How is federal income tax withholding calculated? +
This calculator uses simplified 2024 federal tax brackets applied to your annual income after the standard deduction. The annual tax is then divided by your number of pay periods.
What is the Social Security tax rate for 2024? +
The employee Social Security rate is 6.2% on income up to $168,600 for 2024. Income above that cap is not subject to Social Security tax.
What is the difference between biweekly and semimonthly pay? +
Biweekly means every two weeks (26 paychecks per year). Semimonthly means twice per month on set dates (24 paychecks per year). The per-check amounts differ slightly.
Does this include Additional Medicare Tax? +
This calculator applies the standard 1.45% Medicare rate. The additional 0.9% Medicare tax on income above $200,000 is not included in this simplified estimate.
