Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between mean, median, and mode? +
Mean is the average of all values (sum divided by count). Median is the middle value when sorted. Mode is the most frequently occurring value. A dataset can have no mode, one mode, or multiple modes.
Which average should I use for skewed data? +
Median is better for skewed data because it is not affected by extreme outliers. For example, in income data where a few very high values pull the mean up, the median gives a more representative center.
What does standard deviation tell me? +
Standard deviation measures how spread out values are from the mean. A low standard deviation means values cluster near the average. A high one means they are more spread out.
What input formats are accepted? +
You can enter numbers separated by commas, spaces, or newlines. For example: 1, 2, 3, 4 or 1 2 3 4. Non-numeric values are ignored.
