Frequently Asked Questions

What is an IP address? +
An IP (Internet Protocol) address is a unique numerical label assigned to every device connected to the internet. It identifies the device and provides its network location. There are two versions: IPv4 (e.g., 192.168.1.1) and IPv6.
How accurate is IP geolocation? +
IP geolocation is generally accurate at the country and region level (95-99%). City-level accuracy is around 50-80%. It cannot determine exact street addresses. VPNs and proxies will show the server's location instead.
What is the difference between public and private IP addresses? +
A public IP is assigned by your ISP and is visible to the internet. A private IP is used within your local network (e.g., 192.168.x.x). This tool shows your public IP since private IPs are not routable on the internet.
Can someone find my exact location from my IP? +
No. IP geolocation can typically identify your city or region, but not your exact street address. Only your ISP knows your exact connection point, and they require a legal order to disclose it. Using a VPN further masks your location.
Is my IP address data stored? +
This tool does not store your IP address or lookup results. IP detection uses ipify.org and geolocation uses ip-api.com. Both are third-party services with their own privacy policies.
