Frequently Asked Questions

How do weighted grades work? +
Weighted grades assign different importance to different categories. For example, if exams are worth 60% and homework is worth 40%, your exam scores count 1.5 times more than homework toward your final grade. The weights should add up to 100%.
What score do I need on my final to get an A? +
Use the "What do I need?" section at the bottom of the calculator. Enter your target grade (e.g., 90 for an A) and the weight of your remaining work. The calculator will tell you the exact score needed.
What is the grading scale for letter grades? +
The standard grading scale is: A = 90-100%, B = 80-89%, C = 70-79%, D = 60-69%, F = below 60%. Some schools use plus/minus grades (A+, A, A-, etc.) with slightly different cutoffs.
What if my weights don't add up to 100%? +
The calculator will still work by proportionally scaling the weights. However, for the most accurate result, make sure your category weights total 100%. The calculator shows the total weight so you can verify.
Can I calculate grades without weights? +
Yes! Simply give all assignments the same weight (or leave weight at the default). The calculator will compute a simple average. You can also enter the actual points scored and max points for a points-based calculation.
